In 2010, the first finish of the Tour in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne was a rather emotional one, especially for Sandy Casar who was part of a breakaway that took off early and proved to be the smartest in the final moments. Five years later, Romain Bardet had already gotten rid of all his rivals on climbs before capturing his first stage on the Tour.
Before becoming a sort of Mecca of skiing and winter leisures, Tignes was a little high mountain village that would be flooded after the construction of a dam in 1952. The resort was therefore created in 1956 and started developing before welcoming the freestyle skiing events of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games. Guerlain Chicherit, a multiple extreme skiing world champion and off road rally driver (5th of the 2010 Dakar Rally) is one of Tignes’ ambassadors in terms of sports, exactly like former snowboard world champion, Nicolas Huet.
