The Tour hits the beach! It’s been a long time since a stage featured so many kilometres along the coast, first to the west and then to the east of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. The winding route is exposed to the wind, and the Côte du Becquet will whittle down the contenders with its double-digit gradients before the final 10 kilometres. It remains to be seen whether the uphill finish will favour a powerful puncheur or a resilient sprinter.
