"The plan was to go in the breakaway, especially as I have family here today. I’m feeling good, so I might as well make the most of it by being at the front on the roads of the Tour de France. It’s the biggest cycling race in the world and it’s a pleasure to be doing this.
There’s always a tiny chance (of winning); if everything falls into place, we’ll succeed. We’ll keep going! Perhaps the route needs to be a bit hillier, the teams need to let us get a lead of more than a minute, fatigue needs to set in a bit more in the peloton, and there need to be more of us."
