The final podium places won’t necessarily have been decided at this stage of the race. However, the climbers who’ve dropped out of overall contention will be very apparent, and some of them will still be in great form. This is a chance for them to chase the victory that’s eluded them so far, or perhaps even to bag a second success. Consequently, the climb to Orcières-Merlette should be the setting for a battle between the peloton’s mountain goats.
