“Yesterday I was a little unhappy because I thought I’d do a better time in the prologue but after an incident… ah, I’m was happy that I didn’t crash. Today, after 100 kilometers, I started to think about the win. During the first half of the stage I was feeling not very good but then it was okay. I need to say a very big thank you to all of my team guys because they did very good work the last kilometers – they helped me on the front of the group and it was very dangerous at this time.
“At the finish it was very difficult and very hard in the last three kilometers with the climb. Before the race we spoke with the team manager and we agreed that there was only one rider who was good for this finish – and that’s Cancellara, right? And after his effort with an attack, only I remained with him.
“He pulled very hard at the finish and I didn’t do a turn of pace because I was at my limit. Afterwards, I was very happy to have won.”
