The five finishes in Foix have rewarded audacious racers. This was the case in 2008 when Kurt-Asle Arvesen outsprinted his last two breakaway companions, Alessandro Ballan and Martin Elmiger. In 2012, Luis León Sánchez rode to a solo victory after jumping away from the breakaway group. On Bastille Day in 2017, Warren Barguil was the fastest of a quartet that also included Alberto Contador, Nairo Quintana and Mikel Landa. Two years later, the finish line was on the high ridge above town at Prat dAlbis, where Simon Yates was the victor. The last winner here, in 2022, was Canadian Hugo Houle, who made a 40km solo break to claim what remains Quebec’s only Tour success.
