The Côte de la Croix Neuve is a magical sight, but it’ll seem a long way off at the start in Montpellier! Those riders hoping to contest the day’s spoils on the Croix Neuve’s steep slopes will have to deal with a total elevation gain of 4,300 metres on climbs of every type: ascending the Col du Vent before venturing for the first time into the magnificent Cirque de Navacelles, for example, and then by crossing the Col de la Lusette, which lies close to Mont Aigoual. Long-range attackers and the punchiest of the overall contenders will find plenty of opportunities to go on the front foot at every point of this stage.
