Before they vie for the world title later in the summer, the Tour’s champions can draw inspiration from Bernard Hinault’s 1980 Worlds victory at Sallanches by waging a fierce battle there for the stage win and the Yellow Jersey. After the Plan du Salève and Brison climbs, the riders will pass through the finish line for the first time and go on to tackle a series of steep ascents. The second ascent of the Côte de Domancy will serve as the final launchpad at the end of an intense stage.
