"To be honest, I can’t believe it. I can feel it’s real but it’s quite hard for me to understand how big this is. I see the faces of my coach, the soigneurs, everybody. It shows how special it is. The boys are also stoke. For me, it may take a couple of days to sink in. The Tour is the biggest race in the world and I will enjoy the jersey for as long as possible. We’ll see day by day but I hope can keep it for quite some time now.
I thought yesterday could be the day. It turned out UAE and Tadej [Pogacar] wanted the stage, so it turned out to be a different story. When I went in the breakaway today, I was not believing until we came to the last climb. The only thing my DS told me was: ‘Eat and drink, eat and drink!’ And at one point he gave me a gap that was pretty big. The legs were pretty good. Then you just hope and believe."
