The various roads traversing the slopes of the Grand Colombier have long tested the legs of recreational cyclists and have featured more recently in the Tour de France. Thomas Voeckler was the first to conquer this summit in the race in 2012, cresting the pass in the lead before going on to win in Bellegarde-sur-Valserine. Then, Tadej Pogačar conquered the Grand Colombier during the race’s first-ever summit finish there in 2020, claiming his second Tour stage victory just a week before seizing the overall lead held by compatriot Primož Roglič. Michał Kwiatkowski emulated Pogačar during the 2023 Tour, while Isaac del Toro matched his Slovenian team leader during the recent Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
