The home town of Louis Pasteur is set to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of its most famous son in 2022 and will be hosting the Tour de France for the fourth time. In 1939, Luxembourg’s François Neuens won from a breakaway, while Maurice Archambaud triumphed in the time trial between Dole and Dijon that afternoon. In 1992, the town hosted the start of a stage that Rolf Jaermann won in Saint-Gervais... although the Swiss rider’s victory didn’t threaten overall leader Pascal Lino, who had spent 10 days racing through France in the yellow jersey. In 2017, a stage that took place completely within the Jura saw Lilian Calmejane take victory in the resort of Les Rousses.

  • Stage town for the 4th time

  • Population: 25,000 (Dolois and Doloises), 57,000 in the 47 communes comprising the Greater Dole municipality, 260,000 in Jura
