For more than a century, from 1913 to 2023, Bourges, European Capital of Culture in 2028, witnessed great names from the Tour de France racing to victory on the roads of Paris-Bourges: Jean Stablinski, Cyrille Guimard, Stephen Roche, Thomas Voeckler... as well as Barry Hoban, who was also the winner at Versailles in 1973 of the only stage ever to start in Bourges. It was also on these roads that Jean Graczyk honed the skills that led him to win a total of seven stages at the Tour and Paris-Nice. Last spring, stage 4 of the “Race to the Sun” set off from Bourges for Uchon, where Jonas Vingegaard was a dominant victor.
