Situated close to the border with England, Welshpool is the first Welsh town to feature on the Tour de France map. Renowned for its livestock market and its football and rugby clubs, the town will have cycling to thank for its spell in the spotlight in 2027. Olympic champion Grace Brown won a stage of the 2022 Women’s Tour there, finishing ahead of Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney, who would go on to win the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift two years later. Welshpool also hosted the start of the 2024 Tour of Britain Women, a race dominated by Lotte Kopecky.
