• Stage town for the 4th time
  • Prefecture of Savoie (73)
  • Population: 60,300 (Chambériens and Chambériennes)

A key gateway to Savoie’s valleys, the department’s prefecture has regularly seen the Tour peloton pass through. However, the “City of the Dukes” has only hosted a single stage finish, in the summer of 2017. Coming after the climb over Mont du Chat, it proved particularly eventful: Richie Porte crashed and abandoned the race on the descent, Romain Bardet attacked behind Warren Barguil, the last survivor from the breakaway, and a group of six leading riders came together on the run-in, including Yellow Jersey Chris Froome. The sprint ended in a photo finish in which Rigoberto Urán edged out Breton climber Barguil, who was rewarded for his day’s efforts with the polka dot jersey.
