Albi is a city of significant firsts. The Tarn prefecture’s debut on the race in 1953 coincided with the first Tour appearance of André Darrigade, who claimed the first of his 22 stage victories there. During the Tour’s most recent visit, Wout van Aert also opened his account in the race. Albi has also produced cyclists of all kinds, ranging from the journalist and adventurer Édouard de Perrodil, who co-wrote Vélo! Toro! Paris-Madrid à bicyclette with Henri Farman in 1893, to Lilian Calmejane, a stage winner during the 2017 Tour.
