The lush green Sorgues seduced the likes of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque who came there to paint together just before the First World War. Later, Jean Milesi settled there at the beginning of his career as a precious team mate, notably during seven editions of the Tour. He was under the spotlights when he conquered the leader’s jersey of the Critérium du Dauphiné for two days in 1960 on the same day another rider from Sorgues, Antoine Abate, won the stage in Gap. Sorgues has also welcomed two stage starts of Paris-Nice that ended by the victories of Yaroslav Popovych in Manosque (2007) and Tiesj Benoot in Apt last March.
