The hometown of Jeannie Longo and Loana Lecomte is a key stopover for major races before heading into the Alps. The Tour de France has frequently paused in the town, most recently in 2018. The peloton raced towards Le Grand-Bornand that day, when Julian Alaphilippe first got a taste for victory at the Tour. Jonas Vingegaard is well acquainted with the shores of Lake Annecy having lived there for three years. In the aftermath of the Tour, the area will also host the time trial and BMX events during next year’s World Cycling Championships in Haute-Savoie.
