Greg Van Avermaet: "It wasn't a bad idea to break away today"

"It was fun to be on the break today. The start of the stage was quite hard, with very good engines trying to break away from the bunch. When it was clear they wouldn’t allow us to go, I decided to go alone. Nobody came to join me, except for Kluge. We got along well and we tried to make it to the finish ahead of the bunch - but we knew it was not easy. In any case, it didn’t seem like a bad idea to go on the break today. Brent van Moer almost pulled it off on Tuesday, and that inspired me to give it a try. The bright side is I’ve finally stood on the podium on the Ag2r-Citröen jersey. Hopefully it won’t be the last time!"
