2015: Cancellara’s record

Tales of teams… (I/XI)

The history of Trek-Segafredo, along with its predecessors Radio Shack and Leopard, is closely linked to the Cancellara saga, even if the Swiss started his acquaintance with the Yellow Jersey whilst a member of Fassa Bortolo, on his first day on the event in 2004! Eleven years later, it was on completion of the stage finishing in Zeeland, almost on the open seas, that the Swiss rider, following a good finish (3rd) on the opening time-trial the day before in Utrecht, withstood the wind that blew away a significant amount of riders to take the lead in the race. On the podium, he put on the Yellow Jersey for the 29th time, which is a record for a rider who has never won the Grande Boucle. When he climbed onto his bike the following day in Antwerp, Spartacus could not have suspected that he would reach the finish in Huy with injured vertebra in his lower back and that he would never add to his score to take it to 30!

Trek-Segafredo riders to watch out for on Le Tour 2017: Alberto Contador (Spa), John Degenkolb (Ger)
