2013: a crazy week for Orica

Twists in the tale and unexpected developments are frequent on the Tour de France, but there are few examples of teams that have experienced such a wide range of emotions in just one week. The 100th edition, which started in the Corsican sunshine, began with a thunder-clap for the Australian team, whose bus got stuck under the finishing line gantry in Bastia, before managing to become unstuck at the very last moment, enabling the riders to do battle in a sprint finish. Despite this setback, the team got a grip on itself and even managed to accomplish its first stage victory two days later in Calvi thanks to Simon Gerrans. The following day, the entire team tasted triumph on the team time-trial in Nice, giving its captain the possibility of wearing the Yellow Jersey for the first time. Two days later, it was in Montpellier that another page of history was written, because in the sprint won by André Greipel, the difference in positions gave Daryl Impey the advantage over Simon Gerrans in the general classification. As a result, the rider from Johannesbourg became the first African to wear the Yellow Jersey!
