Creative Alsace

At the crossroads of Switzerland and Germany, Mulhouse invites you to appreciate the many cultural and gastronomic riches of Alsace. The main project of the municipality, known as Mulhouse Grand Centre, started in 2011. To reinforce the identity, the attractiveness and the quality of life in the town centre are the priorities of a programme spanning over five years up to 2016. A human-sized town centre and charming pedestrian areas invite visitors to follow the Red Thread, a 3.8-km path through town accessible to persons with reduced mobility.

The red colour spreads over town in all its various shades and leads the walker-by to discover or rediscover the heritage, the cultural equipment and especially the creators and designers of the Made in Mulhouse art. With its colourful facades, Place de la Reunion is the historical heart of Mulhouse, a favourite for tourists and locals alike. Several historical buildings are to be found on it and notably the St Etienne Temple with its 14th century stained glass windows as well as the 14th century Rhine Renaissance Town Hall, housing the historical museum and the meetings of the local council.
Mulhouse is also a town for families and youth. The Family Plus label, obtained in 2013, helps identify the places and facilities adapted to families and children.
