Europcar has not only taken the lead in the individual general classification with Thomas Voeckler, but also the teams, thanks to the breakaway of the former champion of France, and the time provided by Pierre Rolland and Anthony Charteau within the first 50. The classification of the stage, however, went to Rabobank as three team-mates – including the winner of the stage, Luis Leon Sanchez – along with namely Robert Gesink and Carlos Barredo, fared better than Voeckler. The result sheet therefore has a significant reshuffle at the end of the first stanza of the 2011 Tour de France: Europcar ahead of Leopard-Trek (again second) by 32 seconds, then RadioShack at 1'02”, and 1’18” to Rabobank while the former leaders, Garmin-Cervélo, are at 1'50”.
