Etapa 2 - Datos del día
36 : MEXICO IS BACK!
Mexico had been waiting 36 years for this! By winning Stage 2 of the Tour de France this Sunday in Barcelona, Isaac del Toro ended a long wait for the Latin American nation. At 22 years, 7 months, and 8 days old, he also becomes the youngest stage winner since Spain's Carlos Rodríguez in Morzine in 2023 (22 years, 5 months, and 13 days). The Mexican follows in the footsteps of his compatriot Raúl Alcalá, who won the individual time trial in Épinal in 1990.
40 : UAE IS RACKING UP SUCCESS
Thanks to Isaac del Toro’s success, UAE Team Emirates – XRG has secured its 40th Tour de France stage victory since the team’s creation. The squad’s first Tour stage win dates back to 1999, when Ludo Dierckxsens, then riding for Lampre-Daikin-Colnago, raised his arms in triumph in Saint-Étienne during Stage 11.
1 : SEEING LIFE IN DOUBLE
Dominating on the slopes of Montjuïc, UAE Team Emirates – XRG secured the first one-two finish in its Tour de France history, with Isaac del Toro taking the victory ahead of Tadej Pogacar. Such a feat had not been seen since the opening stage of the 2024 Tour, when the DSM-Firmenich – PostNL duo of Romain Bardet and Franck van den Broek outsmarted the peloton.
41 : PODIUM SUBSCRIBER
By finishing second on Sunday's stage, Tadej Pogacar stepped onto a Tour de France stage podium for the 41st time in his career, moving past Frenchman Charles Pélissier and Luxembourger François Faber. With 21 victories, 12 second places, and 8 third places, the two-time world champion is now just one podium away from entering the all-time top 10.
52 : RESERVED SEATS
It seems these two just won't let go of each other. For the 52nd time, Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar occupy the top two places in the Tour de France general classification. Never before had they held these positions so early in the race. To find the previous occurrence, we have to go back to Stage 6 of the 2023 edition. Since Stage 17 of the 2021 Tour, they have surrendered these two coveted places to their rivals on only 39 occasions.
5 : A WELCOME POLKA-DOT
After cresting the Côte de Begues (6.1 km at 6.5%) in first place, Alex Molenaar became the first Dutch rider to wear the polka-dot jersey since Wout Poels five years ago. With five points in the King of the Mountains classification, Molenaar also secured the first distinctive jersey in the history of Caja Rural – Seguros RGA at the Tour de France, something the team had failed to achieve during its previous appearances between 1987 and 1989.
41°07'N : A SOUTHERN ADVENTURE
Until this Sunday, Tour de France riders had never experienced such a southerly start. Located at 41°07'N latitude, Tarragona has become the southernmost stage host in the history of the Grande Boucle. The Catalan city surpasses Porto-Vecchio, Corsica (41°35'N), which hosted the Grand Départ of the 100th edition in 2013, by a few dozen kilometres. That year, the peloton even reached Bonifacio (41°23'N), at the southern tip of the "Island of Beauty."
