Just a single stage extends beyond 200 kilometres in the 2026 Tour. Its atypical profile favours breakaway specialists, but it could take some time for that group to form. The riders will have passed Besançon and greeted Thibaut Pinot on his home patch in Mélisey before getting a first glimpse of the big challenge that awaits in the day’s finale. The ascent of the Ballon d’Alsace, 121 years after it appeared on the Tour’s first mountain stage, will offer someone the chance to get a gap and dive down into Belfort to claim victory.
