Desperate hunters

It might take longer for the breakaway to be formed on stage 19 compared to the previous one in which the peloton gave the green light – even though not much of a lead – to just three riders who eventually ended up contesting the stage victory in Bourg-en-Bresse. Several teams regretted deeply not to have reacted behind Kasper Asgreen, Victor Campenaerts and Jonas Abrahamsen. TotalEnergies, Arkea-Samsic, EF Education-EasyPost, Intermarche-Circus-Wanty, Movistar, DSM-Firmenich, Lotto-Dstny, Astana and Uno-X haven’t won a stage yet and aren’t exactly competing for a top 10 overall or a secondary classification. That represent a lot of athletes who only have the stage located in the Jura to not leave the Tour empty handed on Sunday after the mountain stage on Saturday and the highly expected bunch sprint in Paris. This is definitely a breakaway day whereas stage 18 wasn’t a sure thing for any kind of stage hunters. The course isn’t particularly hilly in a fairly mountainous province but lots of curvy roads with ups and downs make it suitable for attackers. Interestingly, it’ll end up with an 8-km long straight and flat section!
