Four categorized climbs and a lumpy terrain from Saint-Flour to Albi through Rodez let people think that it’s another day for attackers before the 106th Tour de France reaches the Pyrenees. But riders awarded in Brioude, namely Julian Alaphilippe and Tim Wellens, respectively the race leader and the King of the Mountains, only considered a bunch sprint finish in Albi where Peter Sagan won at the end of a very competitive stage completely controlled by his Cannondale team in 2013 when Daryl Impey was in the yellow jersey. Alaphilippe promotes Elia Viviani for a second stage win while Wellens believes Caleb Ewan can take his first ever Tour de France win. Being from Sydney, he knows La Pérouse as a district of the city where he grew up. Jean-François Galaup de La Pérouse was born in Albi and berthed in Botany Bay in 1788, before Captain Cook. Albi has a lot of history and beauties to offer. There’ll be more after stage 10 that will precede a well-deserved rest day.
