Peyragudes and cycling

For the first stage finish in Peyragudes in 2012, Alejandro Valverde launched a decisive attack 35 km from the line to win on his own. His victory had been helped by the waiting game played by Chris Froome, still committed at the time to his then leader Bradley Wiggins.

The year after, Alexandre Geniez had done the same on a stage of the Vuelta. In 2010, organisers of La Route du Sud held a time trial up to the ski resort, which saw David Moncoutie win both the stage and the general classification. A stronghold of snowboarding and longboarding in the winter, Peyragudes is close to the Peyresourde pass, which the Tour rode 65 times since 1910.
