“I was trying to get some seconds there. The race for the win was well ahead of us. I tried to sneak away to get a few seconds. It didn't work but I gave it a go. I couldn't have gained a lot anyway. Just a few seconds. But every second is gonna count. I would have preferred to have them than not. At some stage [before the col de Peyra Taillade] I was in front there and AG2R came to the front and made a really hard pace. It was a big effort for Froome to come back [after his mechanical]. It shows he's going really well.”
