Vincenzo Nibali is in the yellow jersey for the first time of his career. The last time "The Shark" wore a distinctive jersey at the Tour de France, it was the white one in 2008. He lost it to Andy Schleck for six seconds at the end of stage 16 from Cuneo to Jausiers after being welcomed on stage as a future champion on home soil as stage 15 finished in Prato Nevoso, Italy (the day of Simon Gerrans' first stage win in a Grand Tour). Nibali has two seconds lead over the other Tour de France favorites.
