Sheffield city centre will be ablaze with colour on race weekend. Not just the yellow, green or white of cycle jerseys but all the colours of the rainbow as the city celebrates this awesome event. Fargate, one of the main thoroughfares, is transformed into a typical French Market where the sights and sounds will create a great atmosphere to welcome our French friends and spectators from around the world. Definitely a chance to eat, drink and celebrate. The Peace Gardens, usually an oasis of calm open space, is transformed into an open-air cinema. Walk up, rather than drive in, movies for all the family ensures that throughout the day and into the evening everyone can enjoy this festival and relax. When you've finished watching all the films you want, head up to Barkers Pool where you'll find all things cycling related. Test your skills on our street velodrome, or take your chances with some high-energy cycling tricks. For the novice cyclists, drop in to a ‘cycle first aid' clinic – repair it, care for it, ride it know-how. Everyone has to start sometime and this weekend is a great time to get interested in cycling. We'll have experts on hand to teach the children simple cycle care and to teach the grown-ups how to keep a bike in great condition and race ready.
In honour of the coveted yellow jersey, Museums Sheffield – Millennium Gallery really will be turning yellow with the yellow t-shirts designed by contemporary artists and designers with a Yorkshire connection. There'll be chances for the children to design their own yellow t-shirts during the weekend, to honour this iconic accolade. And of course, there'll be big screen transmission of the whole race, from start to finish so you can be transported from the heart of the city to the heart of the action; every corner, every sprint, ever climb. Be part of it. In Sheffield.
