The shortest stage follows the longest one. Only 125 kilometres are scheduled for stage 17 from Saint-Gaudens to Saint-Lary-Pla d'Adet. The course includes a detour in Spain to reach the col du Portillon – that's a steep one – before going up and down via Peyresourde, Val Louron and the final ascent to Saint-Lary-Pla d'Adet where the Tour will honor exiting race speaker Daniel Mangeas who will retire after having commented for forty years. His first stage finish commentary was up there in 1974. He might have a lot to say about the battles for the final podium of the 2014 Tour de France, for the white jersey, for the polka dot jersey. French sensation Thibaut Pinot is hungry for more after impressing so much at the Port de Balès. The 101st Tour de France has been eventful so far but stage 17 is set to be the most spectacular of them all.
