The small town, with its population of 7,000 is where rests Andrei Kivilev since his fatal crash in 2003 on Paris-Nice. The Kazakh rider had settled in town with friend Alexandre Vinokourov when the two men came to France to turn pro.
After his fatal crash, Kivilev was taken to hospital in St Etienne. A roundabout close to the finish line of today's stage is named after the Kazakh rider.
