1. A new event organised by Amaury Sport Organisation
On 30th June, at the “Nice Fête le Tour” time-trial, amateur riders, whether sports federation licence holders or not, will be able to test themselves on the route that the professionals will take several days later on the fourth stage of the Tour de France 2013.
Over a distance of 24.1km, this new event organised by Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.), in close cooperation with the City of Nice and Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur, can be ridden individually or in teams of four to six riders. The race boasts a prestigious ambassador: Jean-Marie Leblanc, former director of the Tour de France.
2. An innovative concept
It is the first time that a time-trial has been organised for amateurs, individually or in teams, as a backdrop to the Tour de France. The start, from the Big Loop's official ramp, and the finish will take place on one of the most prestigious sites on the French Riviera: the Promenade des Anglais. The roads will be completely closed to traffic and secured.
It should also be noted that the last kilometre of the time-trial will be subject to specific timing. The Sprinters' Challenge will see a special prize awarded to the quickest amateur cyclist on the final portion of the route. Individual classifications – for men, women and the best young rider – and team classifications will be established. On completion of the time trial, an awards ceremony to present the prizes and Tour de France leaders' jerseys will take place on the podium in the “Nice Fête le Tour” Village.
