“I didn’t plan to escape to take the polka-dot jersey. The idea was essentially to go for the stage win. But I know that I should have followed David Millar when he accelerated, but it was just too much. Furthermore, I have already been in an escape two days ago so my legs are beginning to get a little heavy. That’s a shame because with three or four riders, we could have resisted just a little bit longer before the pack caught up. In any case, it’s nice to earn the spotted jersey. It’s something that I’ll remember even if it’s little more than an anecdote for later. Still, it’s fun and it shows that I am an actor in this Tour de France. This was not a day with no rewards. However this is no plan for tomorrow. I can declare already that at the end of the stage to Andorra it will be a pure climber who has this jersey… and that’s not me.”
