For a long time I knew that it would be a short time trial to start the 2006 Tour. I trained a lot on my time trial bike and hoped to be good this day but I never really expected to be able to win. I saw the course this morning and knew that it was something for me. _ I had my director in the car saying ‘Come on!’. He was telling me, ‘This is yellow!’ _ I wanted to empty myself of every ounce of energy and I arrived exhausted but now I have the yellow jersey on my shoulders. _ I have a great team here and I hope to hold onto the lead as long as I can. _ This is a good start but I still really want to try and win a stage in a sprint.
