Hailing from neighbouring Colmar, Auguste Bartholdi helped to transform this town by creating the Lion of Belfort, on which construction was completed in 1879. Much later on, in 2012 in fact, the animal passed on its strength and courage to a young rider whose talent was just beginning to show: a few hours after leaving the town, Thibaut Pinot won his first Tour stage at Porrentruy, aged 22 and on his race debut. In 2019, the peloton set out again beneath the gaze of the stone beast, that time heading for Chalonsur-Saône, where Dylan Groenewegen had shown himself to be the best.
