On its way to Chalon-sur-Saône, the peloton will cross the Loire near Decize, as it did the day before, and visit Montceau-les-Mines and then the southern Morvan, while always keeping one eye on the breakaway’s lead. Even with the assistance of the Côte de Montagny-lès-Buxy (2.6km at an average gradient of 4.3%), the escapees will have little hope of evading capture by the sprinters’ teams in the Chalonnais vineyards.
