Tadej Pogacar: "As of now, our priority is going to be keeping our advantage but not necessarily the jersey"

"I’m super happy with how the race turned out today. We had some strong competition out there. To finish just 16'' behind the best time triallist in the world, both Olympic and World Champion, is great. I put some time on most of my GC rivals - just lost some to Remco [Evenepoel]. I’m happy this day is over and we can start focusing on the remainder of the Tour de France… and keep the ball rolling.

It is a bit of a shame that I’m not wearing the green jersey tomorrow, as I have never worn it before. In any case, the most important jersey is the Yellow one - and the really important thing is to wear it in Paris.

We have to watch out the whole time, because every stage is nervous. I’m super happy to have the Yellow Jersey, yet we are aware the race can feel very long from now until Paris. As of now, our priority is going to be keeping our advantage on our GC rivals, and not necessarily the jersey. We are going to stay calm, above all, in control, believing in ourselves. I don’t know what may happen tomorrow, for example. It may be a day for the breakaway, and maybe someone can jump on it and take the Yellow Jersey. We will make some plans later, along with the team…"
