The 2020 Tour was originally scheduled to take place from 27 June to 19 July. To keep the flame of the race burning, letour.fr will relive every day a glorious or curious race event that happened two, fifteen or forty years ago. A trip down memory lane…
The peloton heads to Chambéry for the first big mountain stage of the 2017 Tour. On one of the difficulties of the day, Mont du Chat, yellow jersey Chris Froome is forced to chase back on after a puncture. However, this is nothing compared to his former teammate Richie Porte, who crashes at high speed on the descent, bringing Dan Martin down with him. While the Irishman manages to get back on his bike, it is game over for the grievously injured Aussie. In the end, Rigoberto Urán beats Warren Barguil by a hair's width on the finish line. Advantage Colombia in Chambéry.
