Five-time winner of the Tour de France, Bernard Hinault took part in the 1986 edition for the La Vie Claire team where he shared the billing with Greg LeMond. In exchange for services rendered the previous summer, the Frenchman pledged to help his young teammate become the first American winner of the Tour. In a grandiose symbol of this agreement, the two cycling legends rode side by side on the Alpe-d'Huez stage, with LeMond in yellow. A truly rare scenario at this level of competition.
