Young Reporters 2013: fingers on the pens... and pencils!

They are now amongst the people who count, in particular in the press room. Since 2006 in its current form, each year the Young Reporters operation brings together six teenagers, tasked with publishing a newspaper under the same constraints as the professional journalists on the race. With offbeat interviews, magazines or technical features, “A Notre Tour” (now for our tour), boasting a circulation of 1,000 copies every two days, has become a reference in its own way. For the 2013 edition, the application process for candidates to join this unique editing team symbolically started yesterday in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, which was represented for the first time last year. Joy Mentgen, who already distinguished herself at the Luxembourg National Sports Institute where she won her place on Le Tour 2012, recalled her experience of last July: “It was even better than I thought it would be. I feel that I learned a lot and even matured during those three weeks. It reinforced by belief in continuing in the domain of journalism. If I had a piece of advice to give to the teenagers who want to do it this summer, I would say you need to be brave… and want to succeed!”

Determination will of course be primordial for all the youngsters who send their application to L'Equipe, La Dernière Heure and Sportpresse.lu, the three press organisations who will select their ambassadors this spring. However, in addition to the more conventional exercises, the aspiring journalists will now, in addition to the pen and the keyboard, have to add a pencil to their box of tools in order to show what they are made of: inclusion of a caricature is also necessary in the application, giving them a new means of expressing their creativity and talent.
