The kings and queens of Denmark are buried in the cathedral at Roskilde, which was the country’s capital for more than five centuries. However, the city’s renown now stems primarily from its annual music festival, which usually attracts more than 100,000 spectators to see performances by the best pop, rock, rap and reggae artists: Bob Marley performed there in 1978, while the likes of U2, Sting, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Oasis, Björk, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder have followed in his footsteps. Eminem and Bruno Mars were among the headliners at the last festival in 2019. The old Roskilde circuit also hosted three Formula 1 Grand Prix between 1960 and 1962.
