The history of the city that’s associated with the production of tyres is strongly linked to that of a large rubber man, as well as to the yellow and blue jersey of the ASM Clermont Auvergne rugby team, twice winners of the French Top 14 Championship (2010, 2017). When it comes to cycling, ClermontFerrand is associated with Raphaël Geminiani, one of the few riders who have had the pleasure of winning in their home town, his success coming when the first finish took place here in 1951. The town that was much later the birthplace of Rémi Cavagna has since featured more often on the Tour route as a start town, the last time being in 2020 for a stage won in Lyon by Søren Kragh Andersen.
