The history of KM97
KM97 was created in 2020, during the confinement period. During this period, many associations were set up and appealed for donations.
In response, several tonnes of French bananas were made available free of charge to the medical profession and the most vulnerable.
At the end of the confinement period, the Banane de Guadeloupe & Martinique wanted to make this action a long-term one and give it another dimension on the Tour de France.
For the 6th edition, in 2025, the finale of the KM97 operation, a nod to the departments of Guadeloupe (971) and Martinique (972), will take place in Bézu-la-Forêt, a town 97 km from the finish of stage 4 (between Amiens and Rouen).
All the teams from the French banana industry, local personalities and institutions, and local residents present for the occasion, will be celebrating the passage of the riders in a festive and musical atmosphere.
- Banane de Guadeloupe & Martinique is also committed to working with local authorities to recycle the banana peels consumed along the Tour de France roadsides.
- And for the first time this year, the French banana industry is supporting the Stop Hunger Foundation by making 200 bananas available each day at the start village for redistribution to local associations.
