On the Tour, the prefecture of Dordogne has developed a link with outstanding rouleurs, a number of whom have distinguished themselves in time trials starting or finishing in Périgueux. Jacques Anquetil put on a real demonstration here in 1961, boosting his lead over Charly Gaul by nearly three minutes that day. In 1994, on a time trial ridden in the opposite direction towards Bergerac, Miguel Induráin donned the Yellow Jersey. Twenty years later, tradition was maintained when Tony Martin took victory.
