Despite being the clear favourite of the race, despite the efforts of his rivals in the closing stages of the 101st edition of the race, there wasn't much anyone could do against unstoppable Alejandro Valverde. The Spaniard claimed his third Liège-Bastogne-Liège success by beating to the line Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe and his compatriot Joaquim Rodriguez. A few days after winning the Fleche Wallonne, the 35-year-old wins his 6th Ardennes Classic.

The Province of Liège boasts a privileged location at the heart of the region, accessible from all over Europe. Its rich heritage and the warmth of its inhabitants have earned it international repute, and it bustles with festivals, traditions and folklore. The Province is a patchwork of beautiful, harmonious landscapes, forged in the fires of mines and steelworks and lulled from age to age by the gentle flow of the River Meuse, whose charming valley can be admired in Huy and Visé, among others. Above all, though, the Province of Liège is a land of culture and sport, both of which it has actively nurtured for many years. It has played host to a variety of famous sporting events for decades. Every year it takes part in the organisation of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, one of the most prestigious sporting competitions, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014. In July, the Tour de France will pass through the Province of Liège once again during the 3rd stage from Antwerp to Huy on 6th July and the 4th stage from Seraing-Cambrai on 7th July.
With thriving neighbourhoods, residential and commercial areas, industrial zones, as well as rural areas for nature lovers, Ans has something to meet the needs and ambitions of all its citizens. Upon the initiative of Burgomaster, Stéphane Moreau, and the community college, several neighbourhoods are being completely renovated, to better respond to the needs of its ever-increasing population, which reached nearly 30,000 inhabitants in 2014. High-quality, forward-looking and environmentally-friendly town planning, an urban lighting plan for some public buildings to improve the feeling of safety at night, and superbly-managed public parks focusing on interaction between inhabitants of all generations, mean that it is a great time to be born and live in Ans. In addition to all this, Ans offers numerous high quality schools, with in particular, one which offers pupils an immersion in Dutch and English. As for sport, last year Ans proudly inaugurated a stunning swimming pool with refined architecture which is environmentally friendly, to the delight of its inhabitants.
