Stage 7Livarot / Fougères

Start 12h50 (Local time)
  • Full British triumph with Cavendish and Froome

Mark Cavendish scored his 26th stage victory at the Tour de France in Fougères as he waited for the right moment to outsprint André Greipel and Peter Sagan. He hadn't been successful at the Tour since stage 13 in Saint-Amand-Montrond in 2013. It's Etixx-Quick Step's third stage win this year after Tony Martin in Cambrai and Zdenek Stybar in Le Havre. Martin has quit the Tour with a broken collarbone and the yellow jersey returns on Chris Froome's shoulders.

Tourist attractions

Livarot

The lovers of strong cheese are necessarily familiar with the common of Livarot whether they know or not where to place its name on the map of France. But the area also produces talented sportsmen. Indeed François Lemarchand, a former team mate of Greg LeMond and now a member of the organisation team of the Tour was born in the city of the Pays d'Auge area, having been a member of its cycling club for 24 years.

Fougères

The finish of a 73-kilometre team time-trial was set in Fougères back in 1985. At that stage of the race, Bernard Hinault hadn't yet demolished his rivals. But his team, La Vie Claire where he was united with Greg Lemon, showed how powerful it was on its way to victory on stage 4, placing eight of its men in the Top 10 of the general classification. Since then, the city and its impressive fortified castle have hosted the start of a stage of the 2013 Tour, claimed in Tours by Marcel Kittel.
