Peter Sagan: I tried to sit in the breakaway

interview16.07.2013Stage 16- Vaison-la-Romaine / Gap

It took 75 minutes for the escape to form in stage 16 and while the green jersey was in the original move, he would eventually roll in to Gap a long way behind the stage winner...

"Early in the stage, I tried to sit in the breakaway. I did get there and was in a group of 23 riders, but when the escape was over, I was one of the riders who could not try and get in the move for a second time. After that, I spent the entire stage quietly in the pack and I joined the very relaxed group and rode to the finish. I intend to live another relaxing day tomorrow in the race against the clock but the following three stage will be very hard and very long.”
