Unlike last year, Chris Froome didn't wait for the last day to move into the lead of the general classification. He took power at the first uphill finish in Vaujany where he outsprinted his former lieutenant Richie Porte while Alberto Contador wasn't able to follow them when the defending champion attacked with 2.6km to go.
“I like the polka dot jersey a lot. So I'm really happy again today. I won the King of the Mountains competition last year. Of course it's my goal to win it again this year. Tomorrow it's very hilly. I'll try to keep the jersey but it won't be easy. What I and my team achieved last year gave us a lot of motivation to perform again this year at the Dauphiné and the Tour de France.”

This commune has always been a great place to live with large natural spaces and the appeal of the town. It is the third largest commune in the Chambéry area and the recently regenerated town centre has many new commercial premises. La Ravoire has 70 clubs and associations, some of which were set up over 60 years ago when the town was just a small village and, as it has grown, it has maintained this philosophy of sharing and mutual support. The commune is located 5km from Chambéry and, with the main transport connections from Lyon to Italy passing through it, has benefited from its location to develop its economy to the extent that it now has over 400 companies. With its many sports and leisure facilities, life in the commune very much revolves around popular festivities that bring people together. Every year for the past two decades, it has organised major festivals that attract locals and sometimes people from even further afield…
Part of the “Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine” ski and mountain bike resort, the village resort of Vaujany is situated at 1,250m in altitude, facing the superb Grandes Rousses mountain range in the heart of the Oisans. It is also a favourite spot on the “grands cols” route. This authentic village has a soul, thanks not only to its rich history, but also its success in developing itself into a real family resort. The resort was awarded the “Famille Plus” label. Vaujany, a high mountain commune extending over 7,000 hectares and including the Grand'Maison and Verney dams, features a number of high-level facilities such as a swimming pool, wellness area, ice-rink, bowling alley, fitness suite, climbing wall, via ferrata, etc. It offers a wide range of activities in both summer and winter (archery, tennis, pony trekking, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoe walking). And as for new features: the “Spa de la Fare” with its balneotherapy area, hydro-massage facilities, treatments and massages, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.
