A sporting region which boasts many sportsmen and women, the Province of Liège organises many major events which allow its image to be promoted, while at the same time ensuring considerable economic fallout. For the last three decades, it has been carrying out an active sports policy, by ensuring a balanced combination between amateur and professional sports. In addition to hosting the traditional Ardennes Classics, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Flèche Wallonne and the Women’s Flèche Wallonne, the Province of Liège has also had the privilege of welcoming the world’s cycling elite for the three great Tours: the Tour de France on many occasions, including two stages last year in Spa and Wanze, the official start of the Giro d’Italia in 2006 and a stage of the Spanish Vuelta in 2009. And the Province of Liège will also host the Grand Départ (official start) of the 2012 Tour de France, which was also the case in 2004. The prologue will take place on Saturday the 30th of June in the streets of the city centre of Liège. It will be followed the next day by the first stage of the race from Liège to Seraing and then the second stage the day after which will set off from Visé.

Ans

Waroux Castle© The Town of Ans

Ans is a charming and appealing town which has many resources to attract people! With its well-known densely, populated districts in the south bordering with Liège, which are undergoing major renovation work, its rural areas in the north of the area with the idyllic landscapes of Xhendremael and its industrial areas in the centre, Ans boasts a genuine blend of diversity.
In addition to this, Ans is situated very near an outstanding motorway network. This allows motorists to rapidly reach all four regions of Belgium as well as the neighbouring countries of France, the Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg and explains its economic growth and that of its companies. Comprising the former towns of Ans, Alleur, Loncin and Xhendremael, today Ans is a medium-sized municipality of about 28,000 inhabitants. Since 2006, Ans has also been organising cultural exhibitions at Waroux Castle which have been attracting an increasing numbers of visitors. After Folon, Rodin, Robs, the Freemasons, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Miro and Salazar, this year the exhibition called “The Surrealist Universe” will be dedicated to Salvador Dali and René Magritte and will take place until the 17th of July.
